Can Psychics Predict The Future?

June 20th, 2010 admin No comments

As reported by the post-trib.com, reader questions are answered.

Dr. Wallace: A young lady wrote to you that her future mother-in-law visited a fortuneteller in Ireland and was told that the marriage between her son and the young lady would end in a horrible divorce. Her son said that the fortuneteller didn’t have any “psychic power” and that she was only out to earn a little spending money.

Please allow me to explain about those who can predict the future. I should know because I am a psychic. Fortunetellers and psychics who predict the future are only telling people what could possibly happen, but that person has the power to change their future. In this girl’s case, her marriage would end in a horrible divorce if she didn’t take precautions to change the future.

Some people put down fortunetellers and psychics — as persons who cheat people out of their money — because they are afraid to look into the future. That’s what we call human nature. — Psychic, Chicago

Chinese Astrology and The Tarot Connection

June 4th, 2010 admin No comments

As reported by booshnews.com, there is a strong connection between Chinese Astrology and the tenants of tarot. If you want to go for tarot reading, you have to know what to expect from the reading. Usually people will opt for tarot reading or astrology when they are facing problems in life. They will seek guidance and help from a reader.

A true tarot reader is a person who has extraordinary abilities, which can surprise you. For instance, they can tell accurately about the events which will occur in the future. They may also be able to figure out a person’s problems without being told. At times, they can also predict the death of a person.

It will be better if you can get access to a tarot reader who is willing to predict things in your life without charging a fee. A good tarot reader will be able to pinpoint your problems without being told and should also be willing to give you suggestions how you can resolve these problems. In addition, a good tarot reader has to be honest and truthful. So, a good and reliable tarot reader must have the ability to tell a person the truth. When you are taking any advice from the tarot reader, expect some honest information.

Tarot reading has been in existence from time immemorial. In the past, the readers used to come in the form of prophets. They told the future basing on astrology. Some forecasters or prophets also told about the future directly.

In the Chinese astrology system, there are particular sets of rules that need to be followed. Based on these rules, classifications are done. For example, the year of birth of a person is not only indicative of a person’s age, it also gives details about the phase of time under which the person will be categorized. The phases are again differentiated using the rules and guidelines of Chinese astrology system. The phases depend on the sixty year old cycle.

As per Chinese astrology, the planet system has five planets — Venus representing metal, Mercury representing water, Mars representing fire, Jupiter representing wood, and Saturn representing Earth. So, one can use these planets to decipher a person’s destiny or future.

The 12 zodiac signs of the Chinese astrology are represented by animals. The first zodiac is the rat, followed by ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. These signs are also representative of the month, day and hour. So, using a combination of these signs, one can get accurate results.

5 Tips To Become A Great Psychic

May 17th, 2010 admin No comments

By Guest Contributor

You’ve probably wondered, on occasion, about your untapped psychic ability: Someone confirms a feeling you’ve had about something, or expresses one of your ideas; You keep seeing the same number all the time. Maybe you walk into a deja vu.

If things like this have been happening to you, your psychic ability is calling you to be explored.

There are a lot of questionnaires online supposedly designed to help you identify with psychic ability. Some ask a hodgepodge of things like, do you see things out of the corners of your eyes, and, can you guess what is on a card before you flip it. Some try to get you to score above average at calling the way tossed coins land.

These tests may have nothing to do with your unique and natural psychic ability. And they often become set ups for failure.
A psychic development exercise should be designed to foster imagination and encourage observation. When seeking to tap into your psychic mind, it is best to play rather than test.

Here are five qualities that would help you cultivate your psychic ability. These make for a solid foundation upon which to develop your psychic mind. And if you are looking for a good psychic, these are qualities you might look to observe in that person.

TIP 1: CURIOSITY. The whole psychic experience is a mystery. That’s what’s so exciting about it! This journey will present you with a lot of questions. You must be curious enough to explore them. And when the responses to your questions come out as more questions, continue exploring them!

The hallmark of psychic ability is in synchronicity. Insights and symbols come in the form of coincidences. These are designed to peak your curiosity, but also to inform, and guide. Consider the concepts you intuit as teachings. Many of your psychic ideas and perceptions will be new to you. You can’t be the type of person to dismiss things. You have to be aware of, and investigate, subtle experiences

TIP 2: IMAGINATION. All psychic perceptions, be they visual, auditory, emotional, or of any other type, come through your imagination. If you can’t imagine something, it can’t exist! Whether you’re planning a party, designing a chair, or thinking about a profession five years from now, you must envision it first.

Cultivate your psychic ability by learning to become proactive with your imagination. Let your imagination run freely! Be open, for the Universe wants to surprise you, and the more detailed you can be with your imagination, the more clever the Universe can be in sending you relevant psychic messages.

TIP 3: COMMON SENSE. Having a psychic vision does not mean you are a freak. It doesn’t make you unusual. And it does not mean you are possessed either. If, for example, you repeatedly see 11:11, don’t wig out about it! You have an internal body clock, and it is aware of the time. It can be as simple as that. The experience is reminding you that you have a “knowing mind” that is connected to your surroundings. A common sense approach to your psychic mind will bring you to useful insights; principles that can help you move forward in your spiritual path.

TIP 4: A POSITION OF NON-JUDGMENT. Psychic perceptions are easy to misjudge. You are often likely to get information that is perplexing, or that you initially think is irrelevant. Be willing to be wrong. You will open up to so much more that way, for the Universe will be able to surprise you.

Assume your psychic perceptions contain symbolic messages at least, even if you don’t see literal meaning at the moment. Psychic visions often seem irrelevant, silly or insignificant at first. Receive the information that comes through your imagination without bias. With time, you will see rewards in this.

TIP 5: OPTIMISM. Psychic perceptions are filtered through your emotions. Many people approach their own psychic ability with negativity and fear. If you are an inspiring and optimistic person, your psychic impressions will mirror your positive attitude. Use your psychic vision to create a wonderful dream for yourself and you just might be surprised to find a few elements from that dream appearing in your waking reality!

Spiritual Development: How To Dance With The Universe

May 8th, 2010 admin No comments

By Guest Contributor

The universe is a dance of possibilities. You dance with it when you fall into a flow, a rhythm, where more of the possibilities that you desire start to show up.

Carl Jung called this state of “meaningful coincidences” synchronicity.

The classical true story of the golden scarab beetle best illustrates it.

In an article called, “Synchronicity, An Acausal Connecting Principle,” Carl G. Jung shares a true story that has now become a classic example:

“A young woman I was treating had, at a critical moment, a dream in which she was given a golden scarab. While she was telling me this dream I sat with my back to the closed window. Suddenly I heard a noise behind me, like a gentle tapping. I turned round and saw a flying insect knocking against the window-pane from outside. I opened the window and caught the creature in the air as it flew in. It was the nearest analogy to a golden scarab that one finds in our latitudes, a scarabaeid beetle, the common rose-chafer (Cetonia aurata), which contrary to its usual habits had evidently felt an urge to get into a dark room at this particular moment.” [Coll. Works, vol. 8, 843]

Jung explains “The meaningful connection is obvious enough … in view of the approximate identity of the chief objects (the scarab and the beetle).” [CW, vol. 8, 845]

The scarab beetle showed up because the patient was stuck in a thoroughly rationalistic point-of-view, which prevented her from experiencing insight into her problems.

The timely appearance of the scarab beetle, something that stood outside the realm of rationality, caused her to experience the paradigm shift that she needed to experience psychic healing.

This transformation in her psyche was a symbol of rebirth.

As Jung wrote: “The scarab is a classic example of a rebirth symbol. The ancient Egyptian Book of What Is in the Netherworld describes how the dead sun-god changes himself at the tenth station into Khepri, the scarab, and then, at the twelfth station, mounts the barge which carries the rejuvenated sun-god into the morning sky.” [CW, vol. 8, 845]

Here is another example, told by Jung.

A man named Monsieur Deschamps had a neighbor, Monsieur de Fontgibu, who gave him his first plum pudding when he was a young boy. In Paris ten years later, Deschamps orders plum pudding in a restaurant but discovers that the last serving was sold to de Fontgibu, who is unexpectedly in town and at that same restaurant. Years later, Deschamps is once again offered plum pudding at a social gathering. As Deschamps tells the gathering about the earlier coincidences, he is shocked to see de Fontgibu, now a senile old man, barge in through the door, having mistaken the room for another place that he had been seeking.

Rationalists like to oppose the idea of synchronicity as apophenia, a tendency of the mind to seek and perceive connections between unrelated phenomena.

However, apart from the obvious fact that synchronicity appears to have a strong meaning to those who experience it, sometimes transforming them in a way that they could not have imagined, like Jung’s ultra-rational patient who needed a nudge by the universe to have her psychological breakthrough, an even stronger argument to support the Jungian “discovery” of synchronicity, I believe can be found in viewing the situation from the perspective of quantum physics and the idea of an intelligent universe.

Everything is energy and this energy is organized by intelligence. This intelligence is not individual but cosmic; it is an impersonal, non-linear, infinite organizing awareness.

Thus, we live in three domains.

There is the domain of the “world of appearance.” This is the every day world where an oak tree is a solid mass of wood that can hurt your foot if you kick it.

There is the domain of “the quantum world.” This is where the oak tree is not at all solid but a constellation of atoms, which at the subatomic level is not a collection of solid things, but only patterns of probability that dance in and out of existence.

Then there is the domain of “pure intelligence.” This is the infinite organizing intelligence that organizes the life-form of the tree so that it grows from an acorn into an oak tree.

Since at the quantum level, every particle appears to be in instant communication with every other particle, at the level of the world of appearance, a thought is an attractive force that brings more of what you think about into your experience. Thus, through the agency of pure intelligence acting on the quantum field, thoughts, which are wavelengths, affect other wavelengths to bring you the subject of your thoughts.

In order to tap into the flow of synchronicity, a connection with pure consciousness and with the quantum world is necessary. This connection is established through a specific pattern of thought, which we call an intention.

Carlos Castaneda’s definition of intention best explains how it is the connecting force between the three domains. He says, “In the universe, there is an immeasurable, indescribable force which shamans call intent, and absolutely everything that exists in the entire cosmos is attached to intent by a connecting link.”

The dance of the universe is the flow of synchronicity, and this synchronicity is something that you can invite into your life by holding the intention of consciously creating your reality.

6 Ways to Communicate With Angels

May 6th, 2010 admin No comments

When we think of angels, we might hark back to the mighty beings from the bible… those grand messengers of God who came not only to communicate, but also to do His will, some even with mighty swords, or as Guardians. Some of you may bring to mind the Victorian notion of angels; those cute chubby little child cherubs who are so playful and endearing. Many people also believe that we all have guardian angels, to watch over and care for us.

In recent decades there have been hundreds of books written on angelic encounters along with messages from the angels. Once it was only around Christmas time that angels made an appearance in gift stores, where today sales of angelic paraphernalia have skyrocketed to a year round phenomenon! Angel Oracle decks and readers abound. Just search the web and you will find thousands of websites dedicated to getting to know the angels.

So what would you say if you found out that angels are actually very interested in your life? And better still, they were just waiting for you to ask them to be part of it? What if the angels wanted to communicate with you?

In learning to communicate and connect with angels you will also gain knowledge of the many dimensions of love and support that are available to you. It’s true; angels bring a profound feeling of love and support.

Some say Communicating with your Angels is essential to keeping your life on track.
So what are some simple steps you can do to open the doors of communication and talk with your own angels?

1. Just Talk.
It really is that simple. Just start talking with your angels. You might try talking to them whilst commuting, or driving your car. You could try talking to them in the shower or at the dinner table. It really doesn’t matter where you talk to them as long as you do. I started off by talking out loud to my angels while I was alone, riding my horse. When you’re alone I recommend talking out loud with the angels, but it may be wise to converse silently when in company.
You will find that the more you talk to your angels – the more smoothly things will seem to go for you. This has been my personal experience!
Tip. Be direct and talk with them just as you would with your best friends.

2. Ask.
Really! Is it that simple? Yes it is! Just ask for help. Ask for guidance. Ask for support and peace. The angels can’t intervene in your life unless you ask. As we are all human beings with freewill and we are here to live our own lives – we have to ask for what we want. So while you remain silent – nothing happens, but as soon as you ask, Heaven and Earth will be moved to fulfill your request.
Tip. Be clear in your request and not vague. Don’t be afraid to ask largely. Try to avoid asking Yes-No questions, as they leave your Angels little room to open your mind to new ideas, to suggest alternative approaches or draw your attention to factors you might not be noticing.

3. Listen.
You do not need to be psychic to hear messages from your angels. The Angels will communicate with you in ways that you will be able to understand. One way that Angels may communicate with you is by placing synchronicities on your path. A synchronicity is a “meaningful coincidence,” and those meaningful coincidences bring us messages. E.g. let’s say you are thinking about changing your job, so you ask the angels for guidance. Then a little later you are casually reading a magazine when you chance upon an article proclaiming the virtues of the vocation you are considering. Coincidence? No it’s synchronicity and synchronicities can appear in many ways; a song on the radio, a phrase in an overheard conversation, a billboard on the highway, a book that attracts your attention, or a comment from a friend.
Also be open to guidance from the little voice you hear inside your head. Fortunately gone are the days when people got locked up for conversing with incarnate beings. You can be sure what you are hearing is from your angels when it is loving and reassuring guidance.
Tip. Be open and find a quiet time and place so you can hear your answer.

4. Receive.
This sounds simple and easy and it should be. So why is it that we get in our own road when we ask for something by closing down with fear and worry that it won’t happen for us like we want it to? We ask for help, like finding a new job, and then we get anxious and worried and start fretting over it, like it isn’t going to happen. Instead of trusting we take over like it’s all up to us. We are taking over, aren’t we? Instead we should “Let Go and Let God” that’s what receiving is all about. If you are trying to solve your problems by charging in and controlling, then you are not open to receiving, but are trying to direct your situation out of fear. When you are truly open to receive, you are letting your path unfold before you and trusting that things will work out. You need to actually hand your problems over to the angels, and then let go and let them get on with it and do what they will for you.
Tip. Accept with open arms and allow for when it’s slightly different to what you asked for.

5. Have Faith.
You need to have faith that the angels are behind the scenes working things out for you. If you don’t have faith, you are pushing away everything that the angels are presenting for you. Sometimes it can be hard to have faith, so if you feel yourself getting fearful ask the angels for faith and patience that things will be okay. And it’s okay to keep asking for faith!
Tip. Don’t keep on asking over and over. Relax and allow time for things to happen.

6. Be Thankful.
Thank the angels for everything as if it has already all worked out for you! Honestly in the mind of the Divine, everything IS already all worked out. It just may take a little time to manifest and for you to see it in its physical form. So be very thankful! The angels are working very hard for you.
Your Angels want to help you have the life you came to have. Why flounder in confusion when help is at hand? Open a channel of communication with your Angels today
Tip. Offer and express a sincere ‘thank you’ when you get your answer.

Talking to or communicating with Angels is really very simple, and the benefits are never ending. When we open our hearts and minds and work with the angels, they can truly work miracles in our lives.

Regardless of the challenges you face or whatever the drama that is playing out on the stage of your life, you can always be glad that your Angels are at your side, open to communicate and then to help you through it. Call on them to advise you and give you the answers you need.

Allison Dubois April 2010 Psychic Forecast

April 15th, 2010 admin No comments

By Guest Contributor

From the website of Allison DuBois of medium fame, the April 2010 Forecast is unveiled:

The month of April finds Saturn retreating out of Libra, disconnecting its square to Pluto and moving back to its fourth opposition with Uranus that will culminate on the 26th. The tension you feel may subside, but you will still need to address where changes are needed in your life. This is a good time to evaluate what does not fit into your future plans and discard the unnecessary baggage that is holding you down. With Saturn in Virgo, this is a great time for some serious spring cleaning.

If you are looking for ways to manifest love and money, the first two weeks have a nice aspect between Pluto and Venus, with a strong force of Mars in Leo to help push things along. There will be a new Moon in Aries on the 14th that might cause some surprises and stir up conflict somewhere in your life, so try and not be too impulsive at that time.
The Sun enters pragmatic Taurus on the 19th, but Mercury will have just begun a three week retrograde in Taurus, which may make you worry about your resources. It would be wise to curb too much spending at this time. The economy is still on shaky ground and things will get even more unstable toward the end of the month with the Saturn and Uranus opposition.

Part 2: Shamanic Tradition of Northern Peru

April 9th, 2010 admin No comments

By Guest Contributor

(talking with Juan Navarro)

What is the relationship of the maestro with San Pedro?
In the north of Peru the power of San Pedro works in combination with tobacco. Also the sacred lakes Las Huaringas are very important. This is where we go to find the most powerful healing herbs which we use to energize our people. For example we use dominio [linking one's intent with the spirit power of the plants] to give strength and protection from supernatural forces such as sorcery and negative thoughts. It is also put into the seguros – amulet bottles filled with perfume, plants and seeds gathered from Las Huaringas. You keep them in your home for protection and to make your life go well. These plants do not have any secondary effects on the nervous system, nor do they provoke hallucinations. San Pedro has strength and is mildly hallucinatory, but you cannot become addicted. It doesn’t do any harm to your body, rather it helps the maestro to see what the problem is with his patient. Of course some people have this gift born in them – as our ancestors used to say, it is in the blood of a shaman.

Is San Pedro a ‘teacher plant’?
Of course, but it has a certain mystery. You have to be compatible with it because it doesn’t work for everybody. The shaman has a special relationship with it. It circulates in the body of the patient and where it finds abnormality it enables the shaman to detect it. It lets him know the pain they feel and whereabouts it is. So it is the link between patient and maestro. It also purifies the blood of the person who drinks it. It balances the nervous system so people lose their fears, frights and traumas, and it charges people with positive energy. Everyone must drink so that the maestro can connect with them. Only the dose may vary from person to person because not everyone is as strong.

What about the singado?
(inhalation of tobacco juice through the nostrils) The tobacco leaf is left for two to three months in contact with honey, and when required for the singado it is macerated with aguardiente, or alcohol. How it functions depends on which nostril is used; when taken in by the left side it is for liberating us of negative energy, including psychosomatic ills, pains in the body, bad influences of other people – or ‘envy’ as we call it here. As you take it in you must concentrate on the situation which is going badly, or the person which is giving out a negative energy.

When taken through the right nostril it is for rehabilitating and energizing, so that your projects go well. It’s not for getting high on. Afterwards you can spit the tobacco out or swallow it, it doesn t matter. It has an interrelation with the san pedro in the body, and intensifies the visionary effects.

Tobacco is an important plant in the ceremonies – can you smoke in the session? No, no, no. It may be the same plant but here another element comes into play, which is fire. As the session is carried out in darkness, the fire in the darkness can perturb, create a negative reflection or vision. It can cause trauma.

You use a chungana (rattle) during the san pedro sessions and I ‘see’ the sound as a beam of a light penetrating the darkness. Yes, sound and light are interrelated. Chunganas are used to invoke the spirits of the dead, whether of family or of great healers, so that they may feel comfortable with us. the chunganas are to give us ‘enchantment’ (protection and positive energy) and it has a relaxing effect when taking san pedro.

What is the power of the artes – the objects on the mesa?
They come from Las Huaringas, where a special energy is bestowed on everything, including the healing herbs which grow there and nowhere else. If you bathe in the lakes it takes away all your ills. You bathe with the intention of leaving everything negative behind. People go there to leave their enemies behind, so they can’t do them any harm. After bathing, the maestro cleanses you with these artes, swords, bars, chontas (bamboo staffs), saints, and even huacos (the powers from ancient sacred sites). They ‘flourish’ you – spraying you with agua florida (perfume) and herb macerations, and giving you sweet things like limes and honey, so your life flourishes. We maestros also need to go to Las Huaringas regularly because we make enemies from healing people, so we need to protect ourselves. The reason for this is that two forces exist: the good and the bad. The bad forces are from the pacts which the brujos (sorcerors with negative intentions) make with the devil. The brujo is the rival of the curandero or healer. So when the curandero heals, he makes an enemy of the brujo. It’s not so much because he sends the bad magic back, as because he does the opposite thing to him, and they want supremacy in the battle. Not far from Las Huaringas is a place called Sondor, which has its own lakes. This is where evil magic is practiced and where they do harm in a variety of ways. I know because as a curandero I must know how sorcery is practiced, in order to defend myself and my patients.

Do people go there secretly?
Of course no one admits to going there, but they pass through Huancabamba just like the others who are going to Las Huaringas. I know various people who practice bad magic at a distance. They do it using physical means, concentrating, summoning up a person’s soul, knowing their characteristics etc. and can make them suffer an accident, or make an organ ill or whatever, or make their work go badly wrong. They have the power to get to their spirit. And people can even do harm to themselves. For example, if a person has bad intentions towards another and that person is well protected with an encanto, (amulet) then he will do himself harm.

How does the ‘rastreo’ (diagnosis through psychic means) work? Are you in an altered state? No, I’m completely normal and lucid. What allows the reading of a person’s past, present or future, is the strength of the san pedro and tobacco. It is an innate capability -not everybody has the gift, you can’t learn it from someone, it is inherited. The perceptions come through any one of the senses – sound, vision, smell, or a feeling inside of what the person is feeling, a weakness, a pain or whatever. Sometimes, for instance, a bad taste in the mouth may indicate a bad liver. All the things on the mesa are perfectly normal, natural things: chontas, swords, stones etc. They have just received a treatment – like a radio tuned to a certain frequency – so they can heal particular things, weaknesses or whatever. But always it is necessary to concentrate on the sacred lakes, Las Huaringas.

Is it necessary for the maestro to take San Pedro to have vision? Of course, he must take San Pedro and tobacco. But it is to protect himself from the person’s negativity and illness, not because he needs it to have the vision.

In conclusion, we must acknowledge that we, as humans, have realised from earliest times that knowledge goes beyond sensory awareness or the rational way of understanding the world. San pedro can take us directly to a telepathic communion and show us that there is no such thing as an inanimate object. Everything in the universe is alive and has a spirit. This is the gift of the plants which offer us a doorway into the infinite.

Juan Navarro was born in the highland village of Somate, department of Piura. He is a descendant of a long lineage of healers and shamans working with the magical powers of Las Huaringas.

Part 1: Shamanic Tradition of Northern Peru

April 9th, 2010 admin No comments

By Guest Contributor

The hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus has been used since ancient times, and in Peru the tradition has been unbroken for over 3,000 years. The earliest depiction of the cactus is a carving showing a mythological being holding a San Pedro, and dates from about 1300 bc. It comes from the Chavín culture (c.1400-400 bce) and was found in a temple at Chavín de Huantar, in the northern highlands of Peru. Later, the Mochica culture, (c.500 ce) used the cactus in their iconography. Even in present day mythology, it is told that God hid the keys to heaven in a secret place and San Pedro used the magical powers of a cactus to discover this place; later the cactus was named after him.

La Mesa Norteña
Juan Navarro was born in the highland village of Somate, department of Piura. He is a descendant of a long lineage of healers and shamans working with the magical powers of the sacred lakes known as Las Huaringas which stand at 4,000 metres and have been revered since earliest Peruvian civilization. At the age of eight, Juan made his first pilgrimage to Las Huaringas, and took San Pedro for the first time. Every month or two it is necessary to return here to accumulate energy and protection to heal his people. As well as locals and Limeños (people from Lima), pilgrims also come from many parts of South America.

During the sessions Juan works untiringly, assisted by his two sons – as is common in this traditions – in an intricate sequence of processes, including invocation, diagnosis, divination, and healing with natural objects, or artes. The artes are initially placed on the maestro’s altar or mesa, and picked up when required during the ceremony. These artes are an astonishing and beautiful array of shells, swords, magnets, quartzes, objects resembling sexual organs, rocks which spark when struck together, and stones from animals’ stomachs which they have swallowed to aid digestion! The artes are collected from pre-Colombian tombs, and sacred energetic places, particularly Las Huaringas. They bring magical qualities to the ceremony where, under the visionary influence of San Pedro, their invisible powers may be experienced. The maestro’s mesa – a weaving placed on the ground on which all the artes are placed, (mesa also means ‘table’ in Spanish) – is a representation of the forces of nature and the cosmos.Through the mesa the shaman is able to work with and influence these forces to diagnose and heal disease.

The traditional mesa norteña has three areas: on the left is the campo ganadero or ‘field of the dark’; on the right is the campo justiciero or the ‘field of the light’ (justiciero means justice); and in the centre is the campo medio or ‘neutral field’, which is the place of balance between the forces of light and dark. It is important for us not to look at these forces as positive or negative – it is what we human beings do with these forces which is important. Although the contents and form of the artes varies from tradition to tradition, the mesa rituals serve to remind us that the use and power of symbols extends throughout all cultures.

SAN PEDRO
San Pedro (trichocereus pachanoi) grows on the dry eastern slopes of the Andes, between 2,000 – 3,000 metres above sea level, and commonly reaches six metres or more in height. It is also grown by local shamans in their herb gardens. As can be imagined, early European missionaries held the native practices in considerable contempt, and indeed were very negative when reporting the use of the San Pedro. Yet a Spanish missionary, cited by Christian Rätsch, grudgingly admitted the cactus’ medicinal value in the midst of a tirade reviling it: “It is a plant with whose aid the devil is able to strengthen the Indians in their idolatry; those who drink its juice lose their senses and are as if dead; they are almost carried away by the drink and dream a thousand unusual things and believe that they are true. The juice is good against burning of the kidneys and, in small amounts, is also good against high fever, hepatitis, and burning in the bladder.” A shaman’s account of the cactus is in radical contrast:
“It first … produces … drowsiness or a dreamy state and a feeling of lethargy … a slight dizziness … then a great ‘vision’, a clearing of all the faculties … it produces a light numbness in the body and afterward a tranquillity. And then comes detachment, a type of visual force … inclusive of all the senses … including the sixth sense, the telepathic sense of transmitting oneself across time and matter … like a kind of removal of one’s thought to a distant dimension.”

San Pedro, considered the ‘maestro of the maestros’, enables the shaman to make a bridge between the visible and the invisible world for his people. The Quechua name for it is punku, which means ‘doorway’. The doorway connects the patient’s body to his spirit; to heal the body we must heal the spirit. San Pedro can show us the psychic causes of illness intuitively or in mythical dream language. The effects of San Pedro work through various stages, beginning with an expanded physical awareness in the body. Soon this is followed by euphoric feelings and then, after several hours, psychic and visionary effects become more noticeable.

History Of Tarot Card Reading

The beautiful tarot cards of the Thoth deck are the result of a five year collaborative project, between two friends, Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris. Aleister Crowley recognized the incredible artistic talent of his friend and eventual project patron, Lady Frieda Harris. Aleister Crowley convinced Lady Frieda Harris to paint a tarot deck for him. At the time, Lady Frieda Harris was not familiar with occultism.

Lady Frieda Harris, born in 1877, enjoyed a comfortable life in English society. Her husband, Percy, served in the political arena and eventually became a baronet. Still, shortly after meeting Aleister Crowley in 1937, she became his disciple and devoted herself to learning about the deeper meanings behind occult topics.

When Aleister Crowley met Lady Frieda Harris, he was 62 years old. By that time, he had been studying occultism for over 40 years and had developed his own school of occult philosophy, Thelema. He also influenced the founding of the occult order named the Mysteria Mystica Maxima, an off shoot of the Ordo Templi Orientis. Aleister Crowley had been a member of other important occult organizations of the time previous to developing his own branch of occultism. In great contrast to the more orderly life that Lady Frieda Harris lived, Aleister Crowley was named “The Wickedest Man In The World” by popular press of the time. Aleister Crowley was accused of being a black magician with an unsavory lifestyle.

As an occult practitioner, Aleister Crowley was not satisfied with the tarot decks that were available, including the Rider-Waite tarot deck. He wanted to imbue them with greater meaning and stronger illustrative power. After Lady Frieda Harris agreed to create the deck, she encourage him to go beyond the traditional cards and their meanings by adding his knowledge of science, philosophy and occult knowledge to create a tarot deck with new designs. The result was an 80 card Thoth tarot deck, which was finished in 1943.

The collaborative pair developed a few new names and renumbered some trump cards of the major arcana portion of the deck. The only court card of the Thoth deck to retain the traditional names are the Queens. For instance, the male page of the traditional tarot deck was designated as the princess in the Thoth tarot deck. The princess card gave the Thoth deck an opportunity to include a card depicting to a young woman. The princess is the feminine counterpart to the Thoth prince card, otherwise called the knight in traditional cards. The traditional king card became the knight card in the Thoth deck.

The Thoth tarot deck is vivid and brilliant in its depiction of the various gods, goddesses and mystical entities that appear on the cards. The artwork is modern and timeless in its beauty. The card suits are recognizable in the deck and many tarot card enthusiasts now enjoy using and adding the Thoth tarot deck to their collection.

Despite all the work that went into the cards, the Thoth deck did not become available to the public until 1969. The version that is available today was photographed in 1986 and the resulting graphics depict the paintings with greater vividness than earlier versions. Both Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris died before their Thoth deck became published, although their friendship continued until Aleister’s death in 1947.
